Bulk address verification for Australia
Bulk address verification checks a whole file of addresses in one go. Upload a CSV, and WattleAddr matches every row against G-NAF. You download a file with a verdict for every row. Each matched row also has the official address and its coordinates. You pay for the rows that match. An unverified row that still returned a match is billed, as with a single verify. The billed column says which.
Anyone with a spreadsheet of addresses to clean
Teams with a customer list
A CRM export or a mailing list where the addresses were typed by hand, in different styles.
Operations staff
Someone who needs a file checked before it is loaded into another system, with no code to write.
Developers
A migration or a nightly job that needs to verify many addresses from your own code, through the API.
Anyone who needs coordinates
Each matched row comes back with latitude and longitude from G-NAF.
Three steps
- Upload a CSV. In the console, choose Bulk verify and pick your file, or send it through the API. Check which columns hold the address.
- Start the job. It runs in the background, so you can close the page. If your plan runs out part way, the job pauses instead of running up a bill.
- Download the results. Each row has a verdict (
verified, corrected, ambiguousorunverified), the official address and its coordinates. Then delete the files, or they are deleted after 7 days.
The step by step guide has screenshots, CSV templates and code examples for the API.
You pay for matches, at the normal lookup price
- Each address that matches is one lookup, the same as a single verify call. Rows that do not match are free.
- Lookups come from your plan’s included lookups first, then at your plan’s overage rate.
- The Free plan stops at its allowance, and a job pauses there. A test key runs jobs that bill nothing.
Work out what a file would cost with the calculator on the pricing page. Prices are in AUD and include GST.
What it is not
A verified address exists in G-NAF and we know where it is. That is not a promise that Australia Post will deliver to it. PO Boxes are not supported, because G-NAF holds physical addresses only. If you lodge mail, read AMAS and PAF vs G-NAF. Through the API it needs a secret key. It is not available to workspaces billed through Shopify.
Short answers
What is bulk address verification?
Bulk address verification checks many addresses at once. You upload a CSV file of Australian addresses, or send them through the API. WattleAddr matches each one against G-NAF and returns a verdict, the official form of the address and its coordinates, one row of results for each row you sent.
How much does it cost?
Each address that matches is one lookup, the same as a single verify call. Rows that do not match are free. The lookups come from your plan’s included lookups first, then at your plan’s overage rate. The Free plan stops at its allowance, and a job pauses there instead of billing you. Prices are on the pricing page.
What happens if my plan runs out part way through a file?
The job pauses. You can download the results so far. It carries on by itself after you upgrade, after a limit is lifted, or when the next billing period starts. A job that stays paused for 30 days is stopped.
How big can a file be?
Up to 100,000 rows and 25 MB in one job, and up to 2 unfinished jobs at a time in a workspace. For up to 100 addresses at a time, the API can answer in one call. The job runs in the background at a limited rate and gives way to live lookups. You can close the page.
What happens to my file?
The file you upload and the results file are deleted 7 days after the job finishes, or at once when you choose Delete now. The rows are not written to the search log. The files are stored in Australia, on the server that runs the job, and they are used for nothing else.
Does it check that Australia Post will deliver to an address?
No. A verified address exists in G-NAF and we know where it is. Whether Australia Post will deliver to it is a different question, answered by Australia Post’s PAF. PO Boxes are not supported, because G-NAF holds physical addresses only.
Can I use it from my own code?
Yes, with a secret key. Send up to 100 addresses in one call, or create a job from a CSV file, poll it, download the results and delete them. The guide has curl, JavaScript and Python examples.
Verify your first file
The Free plan includes lookups with no card. For one address at a time, see address verification.
