Autocomplete now gives more weight to the suburb you type

Autocomplete now gives more weight to the suburb you type. Here is what is live today, 20 October 2026.

What is live today

  • The place you type comes first. Type 2/10 Smith St, Richmond and the list now leads with 10 Smith St, Richmond VIC 3121. It used to list the same unit number in other suburbs, in alphabetical order.
  • Street numbers inside a range. Type 100 Kent St, Sydney and you now get 96-108 Kent St, Millers Point NSW 2000, without typing a postcode. G-NAF holds that address as a range in Millers Point.
  • Results stay in one state. Type 5 Station St, Newtown and the results stay in Newtown NSW. With no state typed, they stay in the state of the results already shown.
  • A new notice, unit_not_found: "No exact match for unit 2 at 10 Smith St, Richmond." The street_number_not_found notice now names the place searched: "No exact match for 12 High St in Kew VIC. These are the nearest street numbers." Notices are additive. A client that ignores the notice field behaves as before. The docs reference lists every notice.
  • Search log in the console. A retrieve, which is picking an address, now shows 1 result. It used to show 0, which looked like a failed lookup. Billing and the API response did not change.

What has not changed

Verify is unchanged.

On a street we have not searched recently, the first search may come back without the nearest numbers. Searching again usually brings them.
