WattleAddr for Shopify

Australian address autocomplete for the address fields your Shopify theme renders — powered by G-NAF, served entirely from Australian infrastructure, never Google Places.

Setting it up

  1. Install the app from the Shopify App Store. On first open it creates your WattleAddr workspace and a publishable key locked to your store, and shows the key on its home screen.
  2. Turn on the app embed. In your Shopify admin: Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds. Toggle on “WattleAddr address autocomplete”, paste the publishable key from the app, and Save.
  3. Test it on a theme-rendered form. Open a storefront page with an address form your theme renders — a contact, quote, wholesale or B2B form. Start typing an Australian address: suggestions appear, and picking one fills street, suburb, state and postcode.

What it can and cannot change

WattleAddr enhances address fields rendered by your theme. Shopify’s checkout and its newer hosted customer-account pages are rendered outside the theme, so they keep their own built-in autocomplete and this app does not affect them. Checkout address autocomplete requires a Shopify Plus checkout extension and is not part of this app today.

Plans and billing

The app is free to install and includes a monthly allowance of address lookups. Larger plans are chosen on Shopify’s own plan page for the app, inside your Shopify admin, and are charged on your regular Shopify invoice — there is no separate WattleAddr account or payment to set up. The app’s home screen shows how much of your allowance you have used this period, and is where you change plan.

Every plan is a fixed monthly price with a fixed allowance. If you use it all, suggestions pause until the allowance resets — your address fields keep working, they just stop suggesting — and you are never billed for going over. The app warns you as you approach the limit.

Privacy

Keys issued to Shopify stores are configured so the text a shopper types, and the address they select, are never written to our logs. We record the number of lookups for your plan allowance and nothing else. Full detail is in our privacy policy.

Questions

Which address fields does the WattleAddr Shopify app enhance?

The address fields your theme renders: custom pages, contact and quote forms, B2B and wholesale order forms, and classic account address forms on stores that still have them. Shopify renders its checkout and its newer customer-account pages outside the theme, so no theme app embed can reach them and they keep Shopify’s own built-in autocomplete. Checkout address autocomplete needs a Shopify Plus checkout extension, which is not part of this app today.

Do I need a WattleAddr account to use the Shopify app?

No. Installing the app creates your workspace and a publishable key automatically, and the key is shown on the app’s home screen inside your Shopify admin. There is no separate sign-up, and no card to enter for the free plan.

How am I billed for the Shopify app?

Through Shopify. The app is free to install and includes a monthly allowance of address lookups; larger plans are chosen on Shopify’s own plan page for the app and appear on your regular Shopify invoice. WattleAddr does not bill Shopify merchants directly, and there is no separate account or card to set up.

What happens if I use all my monthly lookups?

Address suggestions pause until your allowance resets at the start of the next month, and the app tells you before you get there. Your address fields keep working normally — shoppers can still type an address, they just stop being offered suggestions. Nothing is charged for going over: every plan here is a fixed monthly price, so you are never billed for usage you did not choose. To get suggestions back straight away, pick a larger plan on Shopify’s plan page for the app.

Does WattleAddr store the addresses my shoppers type?

No. Keys issued to Shopify stores are configured so that the text a shopper types, and the address they pick, are never written to our logs. We count lookups for your plan allowance and nothing else. Requests are served from Australian infrastructure and are never sent to Google Places.

My storefront uses a custom domain. Does the key still work?

Yes. The publishable key is locked to your store’s domains, and your storefront’s primary domain is added automatically each time you open the app in your Shopify admin. If you add or change a domain, open the app once and it is picked up.
